Stan Arterberry worked 35 years in higher education and 34 years in the California Community College system. He served as a Community College CEO for 20 years and reported to a Community College Governing Board for 19 years. He fully understands the responsibility of Board members and will hold College staff accountable to achieve student success. He is committed to affordable, accessible educational/workforce training programs, quality student support services, and equitable state fiscal support for Maricopa Colleges. Before taking action on any recommendations from staff, he will ask “How does this recommendation promote/contribute to Student Success?”

Stan retired in July 2008 after serving a six-year tenure as Chancellor for the West Valley-Mission Community College District (22,000 students, 368 Faculty, $140M Budget) in Santa Clara County, CA. In 2008, Stan formed the firm of ARTERBERRY & ASSOCIATES an educational consulting firm providing services in such areas as, community college executive searches, strategic planning, organizational review, educational master planning, community college executive coaching and seminars/training for community college trustees, administrators, staff and students. In June 2016, Dr. Deborah G. Blue joined the firm and it was incorporated as ARTERBERRY BLUE & ASSOCIATES, LLC. He served as a Senior Search Consultant for the highly respected Executive Search firm of Ralph Andersen & Associates from 2008 to 2016. He brings a total of more than 35 years in higher education, serving the last 20 years as a California Community College CEO.

Other Community College positions held by Stan Arterberry include Superintendent / President of Solano Community College (1994- 2002), President of Merritt College (1993 – 1994), and Superintendent / President for the West Hills Community College District (1988 – 1993). He has prior experience serving as Dean of Student Services and Dean of Community Based Education for West Hills Community College, and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at Riverside City College. His instructional experience includes Assistant Professor of Sociology, Ethnic Studies and History at Riverside Community College and Instructor of Sociology at Jarvis Christian College, Hawkins, Tx.

Stan Arterberry currently serves as a Leadership Coach for the national community college program “Achieve the Dream” through the University of Texas. Achieve the Dream programs assist Community Colleges to focus on student success. He has served on numerous community-based organizations boards.

Upon retirement, Stan was awarded the Harry Buttimer Distinguished Administrator Award by the Association of California Community College Administrators. The Buttimer Award is the Association’s oldest and most prestigious award. In addition, he was recognized with various California State Assembly Resolutions and he was listed in the Congressional Records.
